PATCHY RETURN

In my late teens I lost my sense of smell. I’ve never been a foodie so it wasn’t a huge loss, but it was a loss nonetheless. Instead of by taste or smell, I would cook by texture. At least I’d be able to experience the crunch of a meal even if I couldn’t taste it that well. Others could though, and found my meals to be over-salted. Food was quite functional.

In the last couple of years my sense of smell has started to come back, I’m not sure if it will continue to improve. One of the first things I remember smelling was bread, and plants in my garden such as rosemary and basil. I can also smell gas, even though it’s a subtle smell. My sense of smell is still patchy.

SCENT

Bread, earth, basil, rosemary, base note of gas.
