It’s summer just before xmas and mum’s in the kitchen making a pavlova, and dad’s mowing the lawn. All the kids have jobs – there’s a lot of activity preparing the house and the food. There’s a smell of gardenia mixing with the smell of the mix-master after its been on for a really long time blending with the wet stainless steel of the kitchen sink.
