SICK DAD

I work with coffee, as a barista, and so my sense of smell is quite keen; I can easily identify the type of coffee through its aroma.

I was recently in Mexico City visiting my father in hospital.

For the past month and a half, the smell of the hospital has remained lingering inside my nostrils; it keeps coming back, even though I can smell other smells, its the hospital smell that always returns.

The mind can make you see, hear and smell things, and trauma brings this out.

We don’t place so much emphasis on developing an olfactory vocabulary, and we find it difficult to articulate smells, more so than the visual or aural.

SCENT

Latex, Bile, Old Man smell, Hospital grade disinfectant, Colombian Arabica (notes of Jasmine and chamomile)
