MASCOT TANNERY PONG

Driving to the airport 15 or 20 years you would drive past tanneries in Mascot and Botany. There seemed to be enough to make a full on experience. I guess this was part of the reputation that made the inner city to be considered to be bad place to live. It was pongy. You could smell it in the car. It was extreme. There was an animal source to the smell but it had been so defiled by chemical input that it was something.

I never travelled by plane when I was a student but I probably came across it in the late 8o’s.
