BACK BURN

We go wakeboarding on the Nepean river. It’s hard to focus on what that smells like because we’re trying not to fall off the board. The river smells muddy and earthy. You can also smell the breeze, and eucalyptus.

We live in Glenbrook, which smells fresh, very fresh. You can smell the train, a rubbery smell. There are no factories in Glenbrook but you can smell the bush. They recently back-burned in Grenbrook and Lapstone, on the other side of the highway.

There were terrible bushfires in 2013, dad is a builder and he’s still rebuilding people’s houses. Our principal lost his house to the fires because he was on school camp. There was a fundraiser to rebuild his house.
