I’m from Japan and I came to Sydney in 2014. I was struck by its beauty. At that time I was on a working holiday (I did a couple of odd jobs: cafes, offices) and had no concrete plans. It felt like the landscape was overlapping with my future- it was beautiful and there were so many things to explore.
I was living at Potts Point. In Potts Point you’re high up and can look down at the harbour. The flowers in Australia are so different from Japan. They’re tropical. Maybe people don’t pay attention to their beauty.
In old Japanese we use the word ‘listen’ instead of smell when talking about incense. It’s used for rituals and ceremonies. The word is not common anymore.
SCENT
Green, liveliness of people, salty harbour, tropical flowers.
